Power Electronics

Power electronics are of integral importance today with the integration of renewables to the grid, ever increasing demand for compact power devices, and the proliferation of smart sensoring.  Given CEM’s mission of to design, building, and test full system prototypes, we have a long history of power electronics design in support of these system designs.  Often, COTS devices will suffice, but due to the unique nature of prototype development at the Center, the team has established a core capability in developing new power electronic devices against specific performance requirements.  CEM has a complete suite of software tools for conducting electrical simulations, along with thermal, magnetic, and stress analysis.  On numerous occasions, embedded controllers have been designed.
